Mythology

The twelve main Greek gods are: Zeus, Ares, Apollo, Artemis, Hades, Poseidon, Hermes, Hephaestus, Aphrodite, Athena, Hera, and Dionysus. Hestia was originally, But kicked off to make room for Dionysus. They are called the Olympians, named after Mount Olympus, where they were believed to live.

Their enemy's were the Titans and monsters. These are the evil Titans: Cronus, Hyperion, Iapetus, Coeus, Epimetheus, Atlas, Crius, Phoebe, Thea, and Uranus. The good Titans were: Oceanus, Gaea, Rhea, Tethys, Mnemosyne, Themis, Prometheus, and Metis.
The lesser gods were: Demeter, Persephone, Thanatos, Pan, Eros, Hebe, Eris, Helios, Nemesis, The Fates, The Graces, The Muses, and The Erinnyes/The Fates.

The beginning of time was believed to have started in Chaos, a dark never ending space. Out of  Chaos came Gaea, the Earth, Tataurus, a nine day fall to a place for the dead, and Eros, a force of love (The god Eros is not the same, he is the son of Aphrodite and is more commonly called Cupid).

Some of the monsters are: Hydra, Cerberus, Hell Hound, Cyclopes, Minotaur, Sirens, Scylla and Charybdis,  Medusa, Nemean Lion, and Giants.
Perseus, son of Zeus, versus Medusa

Gaea gave birth to Uranus (the sky), the mountains, and the sea.  When Uranus had kids, he ate them one by one.  His son, Cronus, overthrew him.  His limbs fell in the sea and melted into seafoam. Cronus married Rhea.  He also ate his children so they wouldn't overthrow him. Rhea asked Gaea for help.  Rhea wrapped a rock in Zeus' clothes and Cronus ate them. Zeus grew up and fed his dad a gruesome drink and he coughed up the kids.

In some myths Zeus created mankind, but in most it was Prometheus, the good Titan.  He created mankind out of clay and loved them.  He gave them fire from Mount Olympus and Zeus got angry.  Zeus chained Prometheus to a rock because he feared mankind becoming too smart.  Hercules came and unchained him.  Prometheus' sister, Pandora, was put on Earth to delight and torment men.  She was given a box and given strict orders not to open it.  She did and brought evil into the world.

There were many children of the gods.  Some of these demigods are: Perseus, Hercules, Achilles, and Theseus.

Eris, the god of strife, was not invited to a party for the gods so she threw an apple that said for the fairest at them.  The gods asked Paris, a mortal man, to say who it was.  Aphrodite offered marriage to Helen, the prettiest woman on Earth.  He accepted that gift.  But she was already married.  So the men fought over her.  After ten years Greece pretended to give up, after Achilles was shot in the heel with an arrow.  A horse with many men hidden in it was put ashore to look like a gift from Poseidon.  They took it in the city.  That night the Trojans were all killed.

In one myth Perseus had to kill the Kraken. He had to find the Graeae sisters who knew everything so they would tell him how to defeat it. He took Medusa's head and turned the Kraken to stone.
